Town Hall Hire

Council’s Meetings and Events staff handle bookings for the auditorium space located within Port Phillip’s Town Halls and can also assist with all your catering and event planning needs. They also operate a range of smaller venues such as meeting rooms, suitable for board meetings, smaller conferences, or private dining.

The City of Port Phillip has a subsidy scheme for local Community Organisations to apply for funds enabling them to use the auditoriums. For more information visit Town Hall Hire Subsidy Scheme.


The City of Port Phillip has 3 town halls with auditoriums:     

St Kilda Town Hall - 800 theatre style, 500 banquet style (no dancefloor), 400 banquet style (with dancefloor)

Port Melbourne Town Hall - 250 theatre style, 200 banquet style (no dancefloor), 150 banquet style (with dancefloor)

*Please Note that the Port Melbourne Town Hall Auditorium is unavailable for hire for the period of 6 October 2015 until 31 March 2016.

South Melbourne Town Hall - 400 theatre style, 300 banquet style (no dancefloor) 250 banquet style (with dancefloor)
*Please note there is limited times when the South Melbourne Town Hall is available due to the Australian National Academy of Music which operates out of this venue.

These venues are used for a variety of council, community and commercial events through out the year.

St Kilda - Port Melbourne - South Melbourne

Town Hall Meeting Rooms

St Kilda Town Hall has 8 rooms available for hire to be used as a meeting rooms or in conjunction with the auditorium.

Port Melbourne Town Hall has 3 rooms available for hire to be used as meeting rooms or in conjunction with the auditorium:

  • Council Chamber - 15 board room style only
  • Committee Room - 12 board room style, 25 theatre style(these rooms can be combined to create one large room)
  • Mayors Room - 10 board room style

All meeting rooms offer electronic whiteboards and flip charts. Additional equipment such as data projectors and laptops can be added upon request, charges may apply. Catering can be ordered to suit your needs and prices will be quoted as requested. 

South Melbourne Town Hall has 2 rooms available for hire however these need to be booked with the Community Facility Team (see contact details below).

The City of Port Phillip Meetings & Events charges can be downloaded here, the prices are valid until 30 July 2017.

Community non for profit organisations registered with the ATO are only eligible for the Community Rates.

Duty Officer is required for all set up & pack down, access times, and an overlap of 30 minutes per shift for briefing.

Security officers are required for all times the doors are open to the public and 30 minutes before and after the event. City of Port Phillip follow the advice from the Victorian Commission of Gambling and Liquor Regulation with regards to security numbers and alcohol service.
