Streets for Living - Public Transport

Streets For Living challenges the common assumption that streets are for cars and that those cars have automatic priority in all streets. It ensures a more balanced approach to sharing road space and reclaiming streets as living open spaces.

The council has committed to making walking, cycling and the use of public transport its three priorities in managing traffic and transport within the city.

Port Phillip is different from the rest of Melbourne and contains many differences within its boundaries. Around 80,000 residents live and 75,000 people work within the city. In addition to this more than a million tourists visit annually.

The Streets For Living campaign aims to inspire and promote activity within the streets of Port Phillip as the benefits are well worth the effort.

Port Phillip residents have indicated that they want a reduction in the impact of the motor vehicle on their streets and lives.

Streets For Living is what we aim to achieve.

Walksmart and Cyclesmart are here to help

WalkSmart and Cyclesmart are part of TravelSmart, a state government program that aims to increase walking, cycling and catching public transport, whilst reducing private car use!

Log into Walksmart and record the number of steps on your pedometer that you have taken each day. The minimum daily steps recommended for health is 10,000.

Likewise you can log into Cyclesmart and record the number of kilometres on your cycle computer that you have cycled each day. The minimum daily exercise recommended for health is 30 minutes, or about 10 kilometres cycled comfortably on a bike.

Another great way to get you walking and cycling more often!
