Street Lights

Most street lights within the City of Port Phillip are owned and maintained by the electrical distribution companies CitiPower and United Energy.  However, Council funds the cost of maintaining these existing street lights and the cost of installing any new street lights within the municipality, with VicRoads contributing part of the cost for street lights on arterial roads.

Faults

If you discover a street light not working, please contact the relevant electrical distribution company responsible for providing repairs.

For areas north of Carlisle Street, ie Port Melbourne, South Melbourne, Albert Park, Middle Park, Melbourne, Windsor, St Kilda East and parts of St Kilda and Balaclava, contact CitiPower by telephone 131 280 or their website

CitiPower's Guaranteed Service Level states that they will make a GSL payment of $40 to the first customer who reports a faulty street light immediately neighbouring their home or business, if CitiPower have not repaired the fault within two working days.

For areas south of, and including Carlisle Street ie Elwood, Ripponlea and parts of St Kilda and Balaclava contact United Energy by telephone 132 099 or their website

United Energy's Guaranteed Service Level states that if you report a faulty street light next to your house or business that they are responsible for maintaining, and they do not fix it within two business days, they will pay you $10.

Changes to Street Lights

Street lights are provided in general to meet the requirements of the relevant Australian Standard.  If you think that the lighting in a specific location is insufficient then contact Council either by letter or online using eServices.  If you prefer you can call ASSIST on (03) 9209 6777 or TTy (03) 9209 6713.
