Pollutant traps stopping rubbish from washing off into the bay

The Stormwater Management Plan for the City of Port Phillip provides a direction for the environmental management of stormwater. It presents an integrated approach to stormwater management, which maintains the traditional function of preventing adverse flooding, but also places an emphasis on improving water quality and environmental amenity of stormwater systems.

CoPP has installed a number of Gross Pollutant Traps (GPT) in the City to intercept rubbish washing off into the bay. On average these GPT are cleaned by contractors three to four times a year. The contractor has hauled out as much as 4 tonnes of rubbish on one pit on a single visit.
