St Kilda Triangle

The St Kilda Triangle site is iconic and significant to the Port Phillip community and the rest of Melbourne.

The City of Port Phillip recognises this and is seeking the community’s views on how to shape the future of the site.

On 25 July 2011 Council adopted the St Kilda Triangle: Towards a Shared Vision (Version 2) to form the basis for conversations with the community about the future of the Triangle site. This document includes many positive contributions from local community representatives which were generated at an Ideas Forum held on 22 June 2011.

Acting Mayor Cr Judith Klepner said: “I’m delighted that Council is taking these exciting next steps towards preparing a Shared Vision for the St Kilda Triangle site. When this Council was elected, the whole issue of the Triangle site had become toxic. We took decisive action to end the previous planned development, and have been working hard since to engage with the community on creating a legacy that we can all be proud of.”

A conversation with the community on the future of the St Kilda Triangle site took place between 1 August and 9 September 2011. Over the six week period a series of activities were used to consult the community. Activities included:

  • Speak Outs
  • Surveys
  • Vox Pops
  • Online Forum
  • Interviews
  • Focus Groups
  • Roundtables

Further information about the engagement and a summary of the feedback received, can be found in the Community Engagement Feedback Report (October 2011), prepared by the Capire Consulting Group.

The feedback received will inform the next (third) version of the Vision document - St Kilda Triangle: A Shared Vision (Version 3) – Objectives & Principles. The third version will introduce a series of Principles and Objectives, building on the Vision and Themes, and will provide more detail about what we all want to see on the site.

A final Vision document will be available for public comment mid-2012 and an agreed document is expected to be adopted by Council late 2012.
