Description

The St Kilda demographic neighbourhood is bounded by Chapel Street, Inkerman Street and Brighton Road to the east; Milton Street, Mitford Street and Dickens Street to the south; the foreshore and Cowderoy Street to the west; and Longmore Street, Fraser Street, intersecting Albert Park reserve, Queens Road and Nelson Street to the north.

Characteristics

St Kilda is well-known for retail and entertainment districts such as Acland Street and Fitzroy Street, and is easily accesible trams 16, 69 and 96. Its housing stock includes larger houses from the Victorian and Edwardian eras, with flats and apartments from the 1950s and 1960s.

The area is a popular destination for visitors from outside Port Phillip, withe features and attractions such as the Palais theatre, the Astor theatre, the Espy Hotel, Luna Park, the Esplanade, Blessington Gardens and St Kilda Beach.

St Kilda is home to a number of annual festivals and events, including the St Kilda Festival, the St Kilda Film Festival, the Global Garden Party and the Pride March - a public display of solidarity, pride and diversity of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered community.
