The Spirit of Tasmania ferry docks at Station pier, Port Melbourne.

Port Melbourne, a port of call ...

Melbourne is becoming an increasingly popular port of call for some of the world's most prestigious cruise liners. With more than 20 cruise liners docking at Station Pier over the summer and twice as many Spirit of Tasmania sailings, things will be busy down at Beacon Cove.

For more information about cruise shipping in Victoria, including a listing of the cruise liners visiting Melbourne this summer, see the Port of Melbourne website at www.portofmelbourne.com.au.

Avoid the congestion

Leaving the car at home is a great alternative to getting stuck in traffic and the best way to avoid the dreaded parking ticket. Click on the following links for more information about getting around in Port Phillip.

The council kept a close eye on the action down at Station Pier last summer in terms of traffic congestion and parking, for future planning. For more information about the council's management framework to plan well for Port Melbourne's future, visit Port Melbourne Framework.

Station Pier ramp

How to load a ship in style

Turnaround times for the Spirit of Tasmania ferries are set to improve after the state government approved construction of a new loading and unloading ramp at Station Pier.

The new ramp is now built, following successful negotiations between the council, the Department of Sustainability and Environment, TT-Line and their engineering consultants.

The ramp will allow cars to load directly on the bow of the Spirit of Tasmania I and II from the land end of Station Pier.
