Background
At the Ordinary Meeting of Council on Monday 23rd April 2007, Council resolved that a Notice of Decision to Grant a Planning Permit be issued for buildings and works for the purposes of a skate park and urban plaza within Albert Park Reserve. The agenda and minutes are available from the Council & Meetings section of the website.
At the Ordinary Meeting of Council on Monday 28th November 2005, Council resolved to develop the St Kilda Skate Park at Albert Park Reserve/Fitzroy Street. The report, agenda and minutes are available from the Council & Meetings section of the web site.
In December 2007 the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal granted a permit for the development of the Skate Park in St Kilda. The Supreme Court has now returned the matter to VCAT. VCAT will now hear the case in November 2008.

Plans and Images
The Skate Park is proposed to be built on Albert Park Reserve, on the corner of Fitzroy St and Lakeside Drive.

The benefits of skating
- Children are now 3.5 times more likely to be in front of a computer screen or television after school than playing sport, children are getting fatter, less active and more socially isolated. (VicHealth Fact Sheet Children and Play 2006)
- Skating is creative, invigorating and physical - it's good for young people's health and wellbeing.
- Skating doesn't cost much compared to other sports - it's an accessible sport that's easy for young people to get involved in.
- For many young ABS data indicates that if a skate facility is available 30% of 5-9 year olds, 45% of 10-14 years olds and 15% of 15 - 19 year olds will participate in skateboarding, in the City of Port Phillip this has the potential to equate to 2,239 young people.
