Sports Club User Manual

The City of Port Phillip sports club user manual was developed to assist Council to continue to build strong relationships that have been developed with all sports clubs and to maximise the use of sporting facilities and the benefits they provide.

The manual will allow sports clubs to better understand:

  • Council requirements and responsibilities
  • Club responsibilities
  • The process for facility development and capital works
  • Further resources Council can provide to clubs for their development

An electronic copy of the manual can be downloaded below.

Water Restrictions & the Impact on Sport

On 16 March 2010 the Premier announced an easing of water restrictions across metro Melbourne - from Stage 3a to Stage 3.  The Government is making this change in response to Melburnians' commitment to water conservation - we saved an additional 6 billion litres in our storages alone this summer - and the delivery of water through the new Sugarloaf pipeline.

The easing of restrictions has provided an additional water allocation for sportsgrounds. Councils will determine where and how the water will be used and it is anticipated that if used efficiently the additional water could enable watering of up to 3 in 4 ovals.

North Port Oval is also exempt due to accommodating a state competition, but is not counted as part of the 1 in 4 grounds.

All sports clubs and groups should also note that unauthorised use of sports grounds for organised activity is not permitted and penalties apply. This stance has been adopted in order to manage access to and usage of playing fields throughout the season.

Clubs should note that club's insurance does not cover training on sports grounds without a Council issued permit for use.
