Construction works are well underway with completion due August 2008.  Please see St Kilda Foreshore Promenade Renovations for further information.
2. Shakespeare Grove   View down Shakespeare Grove with Luna Park visible in the background.

A concept plan for a linear urban plaza to provide better visual and pedestrian connection between Acland Street and the foreshore is in preparation.

3. Acland Street / Carlisle Street / O'Donnell Gardens intersection

New traffic signals and a new tram stop to ease congestion for vehicles and improve pedestrian access to the green space of the O'Donnell Gardens, are being investigated. Involves realignment of the streets to create a regular cross road intersection.

4. Triangle site redevelopment

The Palais Theatre is just back off the St Kilda foreshore and comprises part of the St Kilda Triangle site.

A winning tender has been chosen for the future development of the St Kilda Triangle site. Centrepiece of the development will be the 3,000 seat Palais Theatre, refurbished to heritage guidelines. New major event spaces The Palais Forecourt and Catani Steps will be linked to the rest of the site by a series of lanes, promenades and walkways rambling through eating and drinking spaces, art installations, entertainment venues, retail outlets and open grassy spaces. The City of Port Phillip will control and manage the 15,000 square metres of public open spaces. Construction is expected take about three years. Please see St Kilda Triangle Site - Latest News for more information.

5. West Beach Pavilion redevelopment

A proposal to renovate and extend the Westbeach Pavilion to provide beach orientated facilities has been approved. The 21-year tender has been awarded to the operators of the Fairfield Boathouse. The facilities for use by the public will include a 300-seat restaurant and tearoom, kiosk/take-away services, exhibition space, beach related retail and public amenities.

9. Marina Reserve

Stage One works, including earthworks, tree planting and extension of the bike/pedestrian path, are now complete. Further works over the long term will see the installation of drinking fountains, seating and tables; paths throughout the site; and shrub planting.

10. Veg Out

The VegOut community garden is an oasis of green. Drop by for a look at the plots or the artist spaces some time.

The popular community garden and arts studio site, open to the public, will remain in its current location.

Veg Out is an organic, chemical free garden run by volunteers. 11. Catani Gardens

Catani Gardens is on the foreshore of St Kilda and features beautiful palm trees.

The council's master plan for these popular seaside gardens will continue to be implemented. The vision set by Carlo Catani in the early 1900s for the gardens will be reflected in the landscape.

Currently in the second of a three-stage program, recent improvements include repair of the heritage volcanic rock wall and heritage path. Forthcoming improvements are plantings and upgrades of the playground and facilities.

12. Esplanade fence

Existing besser wall - Esplanade, St Kilda.

The 'rust proof and resilient' 1960s Besser block wall along the Upper Esplanade will be replaced with a fence more suited to its foreshore setting.

The intersection where Fitzroy Street meets the Upper Esplanade and Jacka Boulevard will be reshaped making it possible to cross directly between Fitzroy Street and the Catani Gardens. This project is a fundamental improvement in the St Kilda's Edge vision - making it easier for people to get across to the gardens and the foreshore. A new tram stop will be created to make tram travel easier and safer.

 14. Alfred Square

Alfred Square in St Kilda

Design works will commence in late 2007 to improve the park and its surrounds, aesthetically, historically and contextually for passive recreation.
 15. Club buildings, kiosks, toilet blocks and other structures  The St Kilda's Edge plan aims to return foreshore land to open space over the next 20 years, ensuring fewer, better used facilities remain.
