Originally developed in 1999, the Sustainable Design Scorecard is intended to assess and quantify the environmental performance of non-residential developments (such as commercial, industrial and retail developments), with the STEPS tool complimenting it through the assessment of residential developments (see www.morelandsteps.com.au). The Scorecard facilitates a more sustainable approach to design through seven main categories; Energy Efficiency, Transport, Water, Waste, Materials, Indoor Environment Quality and ESD Excellence.
The scorecard is an easy to use Microsoft Excel document that can be downloaded here:
It is recommended that if you are using the Scorecard for the first time to read the user guide to ensure its correct use and an accurate assessment of your project.
While forming part of Port Phillip's planning and capital works processes the Scorecard is also used to varying degrees by a large number of other municipalities, including Moreland, Darebin, Yarra, Knox, Maribyrnong and Ballarat.
2008 Upgrade Discussion Paper
As part of the City of Port Phillip's commitment towards achieving a sustainable built environment we are currently undertaking a full review and upgrade of the Sustainable Design Scorecard. The first phase of this is the release of the Upgrade Discussion Paper which aims to establish Council's intended direction for the Scorecard.
The Upgrade Discussion Paper invited feedback from the community, industry and government on the future need, content and usability of the Scorecard.
Submissions in response to the paper have now closed, however feedback on the Scorecard is always welcome.
