When is a road and lane closure permit required?

A permit is required to temporarily close a Port Phillip road or lane. A traffic management plan to show how vehicles and pedestrians will move around the road closure during its operations must be submitted and approved by the City of Port Phillip's Traffic Department. The Traffic Department may attach conditions to the permit.

Applying for a road and lane closure permit

This application must be applied for 5 business days prior to works.  No assessment will be undertaken unless all necessary supporting information and documenation are provided.  The completed 5 seconds download via 56K modemRoad Lane Closure Application Form should be returned, with a traffic management plan, to the Development Permits Coordinator, located at the St Kilda Town Hall, 99a Carlisle Street, St Kilda. Telephone (03) 9209 6216, fax (03) 9536 2745, or email devpermits@portphillip.vic.gov.au.

Fees

$75.00 application fee +
$165.00 per day ($95.00 per day with Road Opening permit)


Payments are accepted by credit card, cheque, or money order.  Cash and EFTPOS payments are also accepted at St Kilda and Port Melbourne Town Halls or 222 Bank Street, South Melbourne.

When is a crane operating permit required?

A permit is needed operating a crane or large mobile machinery on a road or on council land. A traffic management plan, which shows how vehicles and pedestrians will move around the road crane during its operations, must be submitted and approved by the City of Port Phillip's Traffic Department. The Traffic Department may attach conditions to the permit.
