Free meditation classes
7 October 2009
Tuesdays at 7:00am – 7:45am
20 & 27 October, 3, 10, 17, 24 November
Rose Garden Rotunda, St Kilda Botanic Gardens
Back by popular demand, the City of Port Phillip is offering free meditation classes during Spring as part of its mission to encourage healthier living.
Kicking off on October 20, residents can join in with Matt Young from the Melbourne Meditation Centre every Tuesday at 7am, amongst the peaceful surrounds of St Kilda Botanical Gardens’ Rose Garden. You can turn up to single sessions or attend the whole course
Participants will be guided through a range of simple, enjoyable meditations to help them start the day feeling relaxed and clear-headed.
“The benefits of meditation are pretty well known these day – sharper thinking, reduced stress, better health, improved concentration, relief from pain, deep relaxation, enhanced pleasure and greater awareness,” said Mayor Cr Frank O’Connor.
“If you’re put off by the idea that you’ll have to sit cross-legged or chant a mantra, you'll be pleased to know these classes don’t involve any of this. Meditation is the art of relaxing the body and calming the mind, whenever you want to. It is based on simple principles and is easy to learn and do.
“Council is committed to supporting opportunities to improve the community’s physical, mental, spiritual health and wellbeing, and we encourage people to attend events like these.”
Last year’s series of classes was extremely successful and approximately 200 residents took part in the early morning mediations.
