The vision

Our shared vision is to reach out and build new bridges and relationships through reconciliation, between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples and the wider community.

Objectives

Port Phillip Citizens for Reconciliation (PPCfR) is committed to:

  • Ensuring that communities have the opportunity to walk together with Aboriginal people towards reconciliation, recognising that information, understanding and community discussion are integral to the process
  • Promoting an understanding of the history of Aboriginal people, both nationally and in our local area
  • Developing closer links between local Indigenous and non-Indigenous people in the community

Initiatives

  • The establishment of a regional reconciliation groups network representing Port Phillip, Bayside, Stonnington and Glen Eira communities to provide assistance, support and strengthen their  local and regional initiatives
  • A monthly newsletter MUNGO distributed to a broad cross section of the community
  • Inviting guest speakers to attend meetings for members and others in the community.
  • Produce Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week events and contribute to community based events in the City of Port Phillip

Partnerships

PPCfR works in partnership with the City of Port Phillip. Since 2004, this has been further strengthened with the appointment of Mikael Smith, as Indigenous Policy and Programs Coordinator with whom we have formed a close working relationship

We are also affiliated with and actively support the work of Reconciliation Victoria and Australians for Native Title and Reconciliation Victoria.

Links

Australians for Native Tittle and Reconciliation  is an independent, national network of mainly non-Indigenous organisations and individuals working in support of justice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Australia.

Reconciliation Victoria has grown out of the former State Reconciliation Committee, which was established by the Council for Aboriginal Reconciliation to foster and promote reconciliation across the state through partnerships with communities, business and governments.

Reconciliation Australia is the non-government, not-for-profit foundation established in January 2001 to provide a continuing national focus for reconciliation.
