Rate Concessions
Rebates are available to ease the rate burden for pensioners in the City of Port Phillip. A reduction in the amount of rates payable may also be available if you own property used exclusively for cultural or recreational purposes.
State Government Pension Rebate
A state government pension rebate on rate payments is available for holders of pensioner concession cards issued by CentreLink or the Department of Veterans Affairs; Gold Repatriation Health Card - Totally and Permanently Incapacitated (TPI) issued by the Department of Veterans Affairs; or Gold Repatriation Health Card - War Widow (WW) issued by the Department of Veterans Affairs. The state government rebate is capped at 50 per cent of the rates payable to a maximum of $193.40.
The pension rebate is only available to pensioners residing at the property for which they are applying for the exemption. The applicant must not have been granted a rebate on any other property within the same financial year.
To apply for a pension rebate on your rates and charges you must present your pension card and rate notice to any of the Port Phillip Town Halls. You must then complete the Municipal Rates Concession Form 2011-12, also available from any Port Phillip Town Hall. You will only need to provide your pension details or ownership details once. In subsequent years the pension rebate will be automatically calculated on your rates account, provided you are still eligible.
Council Rebate
The City of Port Phillip is one of few local governments offering a rebate on its rates in addition to the state government rebate. The Council rebate offered is 50 per cent of your rates to a maximum of $136.00* when combined with the state government rebate a maxmimum rebate of 50% applies* (ie: $193.40 government rebate and an additional $136.00 (total $329.40) providing the rebate does not exceed 50 per cent of the rates payable).
The City of Port Phillip provides this rebate to ease the burden on its pensioner residents.
Eligible pensioners whose rates are $658.80 and above will receive the full combined rebate amount of $329.40 for the year 2011-12.
Note: If you have become ineligible for a pension rebate, please advise Council as soon as possible.

Cultural and Recreational Property
Ratepayers within the City of Port Phillip may be eligible for a reduction in the rates payable under the provisions of the Cultural and Recreational Lands Act 1963, where the property is used exclusively for cultural or recreational purposes.
