Cycling

The City of Port Phillip's geographic location combined with good bicycle facilities and low journey-to-work travel distances provides a unique opportunity to further promote this attractive, healthy and environmentally friendly form of transport.

The city contains an extensive on and off-road bicycle network connecting the majority of areas within the municipality. There are approximately 49km of existing on-road routes and 14.5km of existing off-road routes, not including those at Albert Park Lake reserve.

Port Phillip also has in excess of 300 bicycle racks located in all shopping centres, foreshore areas and railway stations. New racks are installed on an ongoing basis as required or requested. The majority of off-road recreational paths have now been constructed, and we are now concentrating on new on-road lanes and linkages.

For more information about Cycling in Port Phillip, see the Cycling page.

Bicycle User Group (BUG)

As a fantastic way for cycling enthusiasts to meet other cyclists, find bike buddies, organise group rides and keep the council informed about the condition of Port Phillip's bicycle network and facilities, the Port Phillip Bicycle Users Group (BUG) has been formed.

The Port Phillip BUG meets on the first Monday of every month at the recently renovated Eco House in Blessington Gardens, St Kilda at 6:30pm. Enter from the corner of Blessington and Herbert Streets.

Rides every Sunday morning

Sundays 7:30am-9:30am. Meet outside St Kilda Cycles, Carlisle Street.
For more information call Chris Chapman on 0409 593 893.

An online community has also been set up on the My Connected Community (mc2) website, hosted by Vicnet, so that members can communicate easily with each other.
