Private Gardens

Private gardens benefit both those that enjoy them close up and those that view them from the footpath side of a fence. Private gardens enrich the character of a street and surrounding neighbourhood, contributing to the net 'greeness' and attractiveness of an area.

This passive contribution to the Community and local environs is greatly appreciated and supported in the aim to 'green' the city and blur the barriers between private and public spaces. Trees often create the most benefit and therefore warrant special attention and protection.

Significant private trees - Do you have one?

Mature singular trees as well as stands of single species or mixed, can be considered significant in the landscape. It is important to retain significant Arboricultural assets in densely populated cities, given that there is often minimal public space for full canopied trees. To ensure significant trees are not lost to development or poor management they are protected under the Community Amenity Local Law No 3.

To carry out any Arboricultural works on a significant tree the land owner must seek permission from council.

NOTE: A report from an independent aborist is recommended if removal of the tree is being requested.
