St Kilda Cemetery

Over 50,000 people have entered St Kilda Cemetery and none of them have ever come out. From prostitutes to prime ministers, this cemetery has got the lot. It even has a special monument to the local fire brigade with taps on it.  On a tour with Friends of St Kilda Cemetery, Tracy meets Gus, the caretaker's son, who grew up inside the cemetery.

Europa Cake Shop, St Kilda

Twin brothers Richard and Jarek make some of the freshest and biggest variety of cakes in Acland Street. Their Polish donuts are the best and doesn't Tracy know it! First Step Clinic, St Kilda

The First Step Clinic, established by Peter White and Dr Simon Rose, aims to rehabilitate heroin addicts so they may become useful citizens in our community. “Treating our patients with warmth and affection, we will cherish not chastise”. Tracy follows the path of Darren, a heroin user who comes to the clinic for the inexpensive rapid detox treatment. Doctors, counsellors, volunteers, primary carers and clients are all part of this new way in drug reform at The First Step Clinic.

Port Melbourne Historical and Preservation Society

Relay For Life, Albert Park Lake

Relay for Life is an overnight team event to raise funds for the Anti-Cancer Council of Victoria. Participants challenge themselves to complete a relay style walk or run around Albert Park Lake. For those lucky enough to be present, Relay for Life is an inspiring occasion. Tracy talks with survivors of cancer, and friends and relatives of loved ones gone, experiencing first hand the power of people coming together to share their grief and hope.

St Kilda Sea Baths Complex

At the St Kilda Sea Baths Complex, they've got it all. Good food, a gym and buckets of warm salty water. Historian, Gillian Upton, takes Tracy through some of the history behind this notorious establishment using a series of illustrations and photos from earlier sea baths. The girls manage to squeeze in a nice hot mud bath, without the yabbies, followed by a rare look out from the famous Sea Baths dome covered towers.

John Thwaites, Honourable Member for Albert Park

Our Rainbow Meeting Place, St Kilda

Our Rainbow Meeting Place manifests once a fortnight in a cottage out the back of the St Kilda Community Health Centre.  These informal gatherings were established specifically to support local indigenous people. Over a hot lunch, support workers and indigenous people share knowledge about health, employment, education, domestic violence and legal aid services. Tracy talks to those present about their lives and the importance of Our Rainbow Meeting Place in the community.

Tolarno Boutique Hotel St Kilda

Hari Temple in Albert Park

Since 1974, the Hari Krishna Temple in Albert Park has been a spiritual home and feeding place for hundreds of devotees including Melbourne's growing Indian community.  In an impulsive moment, Tracy renounces all worldly possessions and signs up to become a Hari, only to find the early morning starts are just too much.

South Melbourne Youth Outreach Project

At Park Towers highrise flats in South Melbourne Tracy meets Callan, a young resident and member of Ratpack 3205. Established by Anglican Minister's wife, Rosemary Snibson, Ratpack 3205 is a computer club run by youth workers and volunteers from the IT industry. Much to Tracy's delight, she is made an honorary member of the club and given her own ID card.

Elwood RSL Club

At the Elwood RSL, the locals are breathing new life into a club that is still home to the last remaining Diggers. All patrons are welcome, including Tracy who is wined and dined by Clyde, a World War II veteran.  But not before the meat tray is raffled off and some money won on the pokies.

California Club St Kilda

As Tracy is led up stairs to 'the rooms', she explains to the manageress that this is her first time in a brothel. To Tracy's great surprise, the atmosphere is homely, the Service Providers are 'normal' and the clients respect them.  An interesting perspective on this much frowned upon profession.

Galleon Café, St Kilda

A local institution in its nineteenth year, the Galleon Café is famous for it's rice puddings, spanikopita and chicken burgers. In this episode, Tracy dons an apron and attempts to learn the finer points of waitressing and washing dishes. At the end of a hectic shift, Tracy falls asleep on a milk crate and awakens to find her services are no longer required at the Galleon.

Doug Beazley, fisherman & boat restorer

Local legend, Doug Beazley is one of the last fishermen in Port Melbourne.  'Dugga' is famous for the 1930s Double Ender boats he restores in the street outside his house. As Dugga and son steam the wood that will form the ribs inside a derelict Double Ender, Tracy packs a thermos and biscuits. A quick drive in the ute to St Kilda Pier and Tracy is sailing with Dugga and family on Port Phillip Bay.

Global Garden Party, St Kilda Botanical Gardens

A truly local community event, with a great mix of activities and performances all linked by a common theme - living a rich life in a way that puts less stress on our environment.  At this year's Global Garden Party at the St Kilda Botanical Gardens, the collective spirit is not dampened by heavy rain.
