Possums can be a real nuisance, but they are protected by law.

Possums are native animals and are protected under the Wildlife Act 1975

They must not be harmed in any way or kept without an authority from the Department of Sustainability & Environment.

  • It is illegal to handle or interfere with possums except when they are in your roof, or other buildings.
  • Possums should be trapped by a licensed wildlife controller, contact details below.
  • The City of Port Phillip does not supply possum cages or collect or catch possums from residents homes.

If you have a nuisiance possum please look up "possums" in the Yellow Pages - www.yellowpages.com.au
A local provider of these services is Peter The Possum Man  telephone (03) 9646 4222.
