Port Phillip City Collection Management Policy

The City of Port Phillip maintains a substantial collection of heritage items and contemporary art works which are displayed in the three town halls.  The collection demonstrates and celebrates the social, political and artistic development of the Port Phillip. Dating from 1855 to the present day the collection includes material relating to the former municipalities of Port Melbourne, South Melbourne and St Kilda, and the City of Port Phillip since 1994.

The collection comprises collections of contemporary visual arts, urban or public art, heritage items, and local history research material. You can search the Port Phillip City Collection database online to learn more about the collection holdings.

As the custodian of this public collection, the city embraces the management of its cultural heritage items and is committed to ensuring the collection's ongoing significance for Port Phillip and the wider community.

The Port Phillip City Collection is managed by the Curatorial Services Unit. Guided by the Port Phillip City Collection - Management Policy, the Curatorial Services Unit coordinates the development, preservation and promotion of the Collection, and provides access to its holdings.
