City of Port Phillip & Hindmarsh Shire Council Friendship Agreement
Hindmarsh Shire Council and the City of Port Phillip established a Friendship Agreement in July 2008 with the aim of achieving collaboration, connection and understanding between rural and inner-city communities.
The Friendship Agreement focuses on sharing knowledge and expertise through community to community relationships.

About Hindmarsh Shire

Hindmarsh Shire is in the Wimmera-Mallee region, about 350 kms northwest of Melbourne. The main townships are Nhill, Dimboola, Rainbow and Jeparit. It has a population of approximately 6300 residents. The economy of Hindmarsh is based largely on farming. Agricultural manufacture an tourism are also important.
The Shire boasts stunning, unspoiled wilderness areas and is the perfect getaway location for any nature lover. Visit their spectacular Little and Big Desert, alive with native animals and birdlife, including the endangered malleefowl. Or explore the breathtaking Wyperfeld National Park. In spring the desert provides an astounding display of wildflowers, including a great variety of ground orchids. Lake Hindmarsh and Lake Albacutya are also well worth a visit, even though currently dry they still offer an amazing experience for any nature lover and bush walker.

On Board – a tribute to the 9 by 5 impression exhibition: 27 March – 15 April, Gasworks Arts Park
This is a joint exhibition by Emerald Hill Art Group and Nhill Gallery Central and it boasts 40 exquisite small paintings inspired by the Impressionists’ 9 x 5 show. Artist from the Emerald Hill Art Group and Nhill Gallery Central have shared their mutual passion in art and developed grassroots friendships since the painting weekend held in Hindmarsh in June 2011.

Project Hindmarsh Community Planting Weekend: 20 - 21 August 2011, Nhill
What a fantastic weekend we had! Under the warm winter sun, all volunteers enjoyed being outdoor and doing their bits towards environmental conservation. The weekend brought the old friends together while many new friendships were formed. Check out the photos here.

Port Phillip - Hindmarsh Friendship Weekend: 11 - 13 June 2011, Jeparit
11 people from the City of Port Phillip participated in the inaugural ‘Friendship Weekend’ joining the Hindmarsh force at Jeparit. The tree planters from both Councils spent the weekend learning about each other’s community, exchanging ideas and forming new friendships while planting 3,500 trees. Delicious barbecue meals were prepared by a Hindmarsh staff and the good food with great company made the sunny but cold winter weekend even more enjoyable for all. Check out the photos here.
Port Phillip - Hindmarsh Painting Weekend: 11 - 13 June 2011, Nhill
Nine amateur and professional artists from the City of Port Phillip participated in the inaugural Port Phillip – Hindmarsh Painting Weekend at Nhill during the Queen’s Birthday long weekend, as part of the Friendship Program. CoPP and Hindmarsh artists spent the weekend together sharing their passion for art, exchanging their artistic skills and developing friendships. Check out the photos here.
Hindmarsh Landcare Tree Planting Weekend: August 2010
The Hindmarsh Landcare Network’s 13th annual tree planting weekend kicked off on Friday 13th August. Over 200 volunteers, including a number of Port Phillip residents, planted up to 15,000 trees across 30 hectares of land. Read more
