About Market Fees
The South Melbourne Market (SMM) annually reviews and renews stallholder licences. The re-valuation is a normal part of doing business. Each year as stallholder licenses come to an end, the stall is re-valued. Any increases in fees balance the stallholder's need for a reasonable commercial return with ensuring the Market remains competitive.
All licence fee increases are approved and endorsed by the SMM Management Committee which is made up of two councillors, an independent chairperson and the Executive Director Community Assets and Services David Yeouart.
Stallholder licence fees pay for marketing and advertising, maintenance, utilities, building works, all cleaning, waste removal, and security. There are significant costs associated with maintaining a large and historic asset like the Market. Licence fees ensure we can maintain this asset for current and for future generations.
