Minor Improvements to your local parks
Council undertakes minor maintenance and landscape works to improve local parks.
These works look to improve pedestrian access into parks, provide more shade trees and improve the condition of paths, fences, furniture where required.

Improvements
Buckingham Reserve
- A path around the reserve and connecting the playground to provide a safe environment for children to ride bikes and access for all
- Port primary school are providing their hand prints in the new path to encourage local children take ownership of this park
- Removal of trees with poor structure from the perimeter of the park
- Planting new trees in April 2009 to provide shade and strengthen landscape character. The trees are to be watered for 12 months after planting (tree species will be in keeping with existing trees)
- Mulching of all existing trees to retain moisture at the critical root zone
Centenary Drive
- Repair damaged fences on Swallow Street and Centenary Drive
- Removal of dead trees
- Install 3 new garden beds along Swallow Street and Centenary Drive.
- Plant 7 new trees in April 2009, with 12 months watering included.
- Remove trip hazards around sub station
Crichton Reserve
- Removal of 5 trees with poor structure and root growth from the perimeter of the park
- Constructing of a concrete path at Farrell Street
- Repositioning of 2 seats to shady positions within the park (next to the play space under the Elm trees)
- Planting of 11 new trees to the permitter of the park allowing for maximum open space at the Liardent street end of the park with 12 months watering included. Trees will be planted in April 2009.
- Infill planting to the corner garden bed including plinth to the edge
- Installation of a concrete path from the existing cross over on Stokes Street to the play ground to allow for better access for all.
Cyril Letts Reserve
- Removal of dead trees
- Relocation of seat from next to the path to next to the playground
- Improve the surface of the path next to the playground
- Removal of one mound and reduction of size of additional two into Edwards Avenue to allow for better access
- Uplifting of the coppice of trees in Howe Cres
- Mulching of existing trees
- Installation of stepping stones from Howe Cres to the playground
- Flattening of edges but retention of mound along the back of the reserve adjacent to Emery Street
- Planting of 10 additional trees throughout the park in keeping with the existing species. Planting will occur in April 2009 with 12 months of watering and maintenance.
RF Julier Reserve
- Removal of dead and poorly performing trees from the perimeter of the park
- Relocation of seat and drinking fountain next to the play areas to be within better distance from these facilities (playground and courts)
- Installation of a new drinking fountain to replace the existing tap
- Mulching of existing tree throughout the park
- Installation and finishing of asphalt paths next to the playground and toilets to allow for improved pedestrian movement into and out of the park
- Planting of additional trees to create structure and shade in keeping with the existing species along existing tree planting lines. Planting will occur in April 2009 with 12 months of watering and maintenance.
- Infill planting of like species into triangular garden beds at the edge of the oval
Sangster Reserve
- Painting of the perimeter fence from existing to black and the installation of a gateway from the bowls club into the park
- Fitting of self closing springs to gates
- Consolidating of the play equipment to allow for more open space and re-turfing of the footprint
- Installation of a new drinking fountain
- Planting of 1 additional Plane tree to be planted in April 2009 with provision of watering for 12 months after planting
Turville Place Reserve
- Removal of fence from along roadside in Turville Place
- Repairing missing fence panels and retention of fence along Graham Street
- Planting of Bamboo along fence line on Graham Street side of fence
- Removal of dead trees
- Mulching of existing trees
- Planting of 15 new trees in April 2009 with 12 months watering included
