Amazing Feets - Freestyle Photo Exhibition

Fifty young people will dance up a storm to launch the latest Gasworks' exhibition, Free Style Photos, on Monday (September 24) at 1pm. The dancers will 'pull freezes on the floor', 'uprock' and show their 'attitude and style' in hip hop, breakdancing, funk and other freewheeling dance forms.
The photographs on exhibition document the Freestyle Fever dance contest at Luna Park on Sunday April 29 where 400 people turned up to watch around 35 young people compete. Fern Miller took the 50 large colour photographs which will be on display at Gasworks till October 24.
The City of Port Phillip's Beats'COOL program has nurtured the dance aspirations of scores of young local people right across the municipality and funds free Beats'COOL classes at Gasworks on Wednesdays, 3-4pm for 'B-girls', 4-5pm for 'B-boys', though B-girls usually stay for the extra session. Neda Rahmani, Dance Coordinator for NedJelly Connections, takes the classes.
The launch also includes a session planning the future of Free Style Fever and a barbecue.

Summit inspires local action

The Port Phillip Speaks Community Summit has inspired many residents to start interesting projects throughout the community. The Six Star House Project is the inspiration of a group of Albert Park and Middle Park residents who want to help each other make their houses more sustainable.
The project grew out of the Middle Park and Albert Park community meeting that followed the City of Port Phillip Speaks Community Summit, with their objective being to act as a resource to local residents, to help them install sustainable fittings and adopt sustainable features when they renovate their home.
Short term, the Six Star House Project is hoping they can get every household in Port Phillip to implement one sustainable feature in their home, while long term they're hoping residents will turn their homes into Six Star Houses.

St Kilda Festival wins AbaF Award

The City of Port Phillip has won a prestigious award for business-arts partnerships at the Australia Business Arts Foundation (AbaF) Awards in Victoria, presented on Monday 10 September at the Sofitel Melbourne.
The City of Port Phillip through the St Kilda Festival won the Marsh Partnering Award for their relationship with Foxtel - for partnerships between businesses employing more than 200 people and arts and cultural organisations.
A diverse list of business and arts organisations are among the winners of the AbaF Awards in Victoria. Awards were presented in six categories to the best and most innovative relationships between the private sector and the arts in partnerships, volunteering and philanthropy.
The City of Port Phillip and the other Victorian winners will go on to the national AbaF Awards to be announced on 25 October in Sydney.

10th Anniversary and AGM for Port Phillip Citizens for Reconcilliation

Port Phillip Citizens for Reconciliation will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a screening of the award-winning short documentary about Aaron and Vinnie Pedersen, My Brother Vinnie, with cast members, music from Kutcha Edwards and refreshments, from 6.30pm on Wednesday September 26 at St Kilda Library community room. An AGM at 6pm precedes the event.

Snapped Exhibition

Snapped, an exhibition of large colour photographs of people with disabilities participating in sport, recreation and the arts, Snapped, opened this week at St Kilda Town Hall and runs for the whole of September.
Sport and Recreation Victoria commissioned photographer Anne Boetto to take twenty of the photographs which previously went on exhibition at Richmond Town Hall last year as part of the City of Yarra's celebrations for the International Day of People with Disabilities. The Joint Council Access for All Abilities, is a service offering sporting and recreational opportunities in the Cities of Bayside and Port Phillip, and has added ten large colour photographs of its own to the exhibition.
JCAAA works with local sports, arts and recreation organisations to create opportunities for people with disabilities to participate in the community. JCAAA currently operates a fitness program for women with mental health issues at the St Kilda Police and Citizens' Youth Centre, a teenage holiday program at MSAC, circus classes at Circus Oz, a drama program called Drama Teens with Playback Theatre at Gasworks and under-age dance parties. The next party is on September 16 at Trinity Hall in St Kilda.

Make sure your pets are registered

The City of Port Phillip will be cracking down on unregistered dogs and cats over September and October with members of the Animal Management team going door to door to ensure your pets have their blue registration tags.
Registration is due on April 10 each year with a number of payment methods available. Those without proper registration will face a $220 fine, however, if your pet's not registered it's not too late to do so.
