St Kilda light rail tram stop upgrade - Route 96 tram service changes

As part of the State Government’s initiative to improve the accessibility and safety of Melbourne’s tram network, tram stops along the St Kilda light rail are being upgraded to comply with the Disability Discrimination Act.

Temporary tram service changes

From first tram on Saturday 3 October to last tram on Sunday 4 October 2009, the St Kilda light rail section of Route 96 (between City Road and St Kilda Station) will be closed. Route 96 trams will divert via Route 112 to terminate in Park Street at Fitzroy Street, St Kilda.

Trams on Routes 96 and 112 will service all stops along Park Street, Patterson Street, Danks Street, Mills Street, Canterbury Road, Albert Road and Clarendon Street (see map).

Shuttle trams will operate between the Acland Street terminus and St Kilda Station via Acland Street, The Esplanade and Fitzroy Street.

Severe Weather Warning

Weather Situation
An active cold front will approach western Victoria on Thursday night with northerly winds strengthen ahead of the change overnight. The front will move across the state on Friday bringing a band of rain and isolated thunderstorms, while winds will slowly moderate and tend more westerly with the passage of the change.

Damaging winds averaging 50 to 60 km/h with peak gusts around 90 km/h are forecast for mainly elevated areas of the Central, Western, North Central, Wimmera, Alpine Areas and West and South Gippsland forecast districts.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
    - People should not park or shelter under trees.
    - Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
    - For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500.

The next warning will be issued by 5:00 pm EST Thursday.
