City of Port Phillip, July 2007

Our climate is changing and every community needs to change the way it uses energy, water and transportation.

The City of Port Phillip is committed to meeting ambitious targets for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and water usage.

We are also committed to helping our community to be more efficient, more sustainable and more involved in responding to climate change.

To this end the council has adopted a Toward Zero Sustainable Environment Strategy.

The City of Port Phillip's climate change commitments are:

  • Zero net greenhouse gas emissions and a 70% reduction in potable water use from council operations by 2020
  • Helping residents and businesses to reduce the per capita green house gas emissions by 50%from 2006 levels and water use by 50% from 2001 levels by 2020
  • Providing regular reports to the community about key indicators so that we can share our success and learn from our setbacks.

By working together with our citizens, businesses and other levels of government, we will enthusiastically embrace local and global solutions to minimise local impacts and limit climate change.

This is our commitment today for the generations of tomorrow.
