Port Phillip Multifaith Network

Port Phillip Multifaith Network

The Port Phillip Multifaith Network comprises representatives and leaders from a wide variety of religions and faith groups in the City of Port Phillip.  The network meets on a monthly basis and is concerned with promoting responses which deal with discrimination, social inequity, disadvantage and poverty.

What Does Inter / Multi Faith Mean?

The term interfaith refers to cooperative and positive interaction between people of different religious traditions, at both the individual and broader level with the aim of deriving a common ground in belief through a concentration on similarities between faiths.  Interfaith dialogue often involves promoting understanding between different religions to increase "tolerance" towards others.

Current Projects

Each year the Port Phillip Multifaith Network plans events and projects which promote interfaith dialogue and aim at celebrating the diversity of the people of Port Phillip.

An Open House series is planned for 2011-12, which involves places of worship opening their doors and offering hospitality to the wider community. Included in this series will be the much requested Hare Krishna Temple Vegetarian Masterclass.

Dates to remember in 2011:

  • Sunday 21st August:   Refugee Event with Victorian Council of Churches
  • Sat 27th and Sun 28th November:  Multifaith Festival with Faith Victoria
