Nearly a quarter of residents in the City of Port Phillip speak languages other than English at home. The council offers a free multilingual telephone interpreting service for council enquiries, and all council publications carry a summary translation in the four main community languages (Chinese, Greek, Polish and Russian).

Multilingual interpreter

For the price of a local telephone call, Port Phillip residents from non-English speaking backgrounds can be connected immediately with an interpreter who speaks their language.

The interpreter will put a caller in touch with the council's ASSIST Call Centre for a response to enquiries. Staff at the council's service outlets can also access the interpreter link for enquiries in person by residents who do not speak English.
