If you join the Port Phillip Library, you'll get a Library card.  Now you can borrow.

Joining the library

Membership of Port Phillip Library Service is free to all - whether you are a resident, living in another municipality, or simply passing through.

Becoming a member is quick and easy. What you need:

  • ID that shows your current address - such as a license, bill or Health Care Card
  • If you haven't proof of address you can obtain a partial membership
  • Under-18s need a parent or guardian to sign their card
  • You will need to select a pin number or password in order to access some services

You can now join online!

When you join online you will be immediately able to request items from the catalogue and access the library's online resources.

To complete your membership you will need to visit your nearest library branch with ID (as above) and obtain a library card.

Entitlements

Becoming a member gives you access to services at all branches of the Port Phillip Library Service.

  • 4 week loan period for most items
  • 2 week loan period for items that are in high demand and for all DVDs
  • Unlimited books and talking books on tape
  • 4 adult talking books on CD + 4 teenage talking books on CD + 4 children's talking books on CD
  • Unlimited videos (except for those in languages other than English)
  • 4 CDs
  • 4 DVDs
  • 4 CD-ROMs
  • 4 magazines
  • internet and PC access - you must be a member of the library if you wish to use these facilities

NEW - you can now borrow Playstation 2 games!

You can borrow 1 game at a time, for 2 weeks with no renewals.

 

Partial membership gives you access to all services but you can only borrow 2 items at a time.

Material from any branch can be transferred to the branch closest to you for collection and items can be returned to any branch of the service.

Renewals

Loans can be renewed unless the item has been reserved by another borrower. DVDs can not be renewed. To renew items telephone or visit any of our library branches or follow the Your library card link on the library online catalogue or on the catalogue terminals in the branches. You will need a pin number or password to access this feature.

Reservations

Interested in borrowing material already out on loan or at another branch of the service? Port Phillip libraries allow you to reserve material and have it delivered to a branch of your choice. Reservations are free and unlimited for all items except DVDs and Playstation 2 games (limited to 4 reservations at a time). To reserve material, speak to any of our library staff. Alternatively, you can place your own reservations using the library online catalogue or the catalogue terminals at any library branch. You will need a pin number or password to access this feature.

When your reservation becomes available you will be notified by telephone, email or mail and the item will be held at the designated branch for two weeks.

Charges

A charge of 20 cents per day per item (10 cents for children) applies where items are not returned or renewed by the due date.
