Online Resources

Port Phillip Library Service's new online search tool - Webfeat - is now fully functional.

To start using it, go to the Webfeat Search Page and login using your library membership number and your password - it's as simple as that!

What is Webfeat and what makes it special?

Webfeat is a federated search engine that gives you the power to simultaneously search across various website databases that the library subscribes to, as well as the library catalogue and the Libraries Australia website.

Resources that can be searched by Webfeat include full text magazine articles, reading guides, encyclopaedias on health and science, Government databases, library catalogues and more.

But doesn't Google do that?

Well, Google is great, but it is limited to sources that can be indexed by it. Subscription databases like the ones that we provide access to are out of its jurisdiction, so you won't find these results in a Google search. Also, content found via Google might be days, weeks or even years old, problematic if you want current information. Finally, Google results come from anywhere on the web, with almost no distinction made between someone's personal blog and a more reliable source - whereas the smaller group of sources we have selected for you are all likely to produce high-quality information.
