Q and A with... Paula Havelberg
The last book I read was… The Doctor and the Diva by Adrienne McDonnell, and The Eye of the Leopard by Henning Mankell (finished both about the same time)
The author who inspires me most is… Salman Rushdie
Growing up, my favourite books were… Little House on the Prairie Series and Trixie Belden teenage detective series (pre CSI, detective novels for ‘young adults’ used to be quite benign)
The last book I didn’t finish was… Left Neglected by Lisa Genova - prior to that .. Moby Dick! Quite a rare event for me to persevere half way through a book and then throw in the towel (as I did with the above). I usually make up my mind in the first two pages
The last book I gave as a gift was… Most likely a cook book of some description, but I can’t remember precisely.
A book that’s helped me through tough times is… Care of the Soul by Thomas Moore.
The books on my bedside table are… Constantly being tidied up by my husband!
If I could invite three characters to a dinner party… One character from each generation of One hundred years of solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, plus Lin and Prabhaker from Shantaram, and Helen Garner who has appeared as a protagonist in her own books.
