Kids’ Suggestions |
Grownups’ Actions |
| Help us to feel safe in our homes. ‘..Silly people when I’m sleeping at the night they scream outside my house and make me sad’ (age 5) |
Together with other community groups we focus on preventing family violence, provide support to families of those who have a member affected by drug or alcohol abuse and help those who are addicted to drugs and alcohol. |
| Help our families to spend more time together ‘Open areas to kick footy with Dad’ (age 9) ‘I (like to) sit somewhere quiet and snuggle with Mum.’ (age 4) |
Port Phillip council is a ‘family friendly’ workplace and we help our staff to plan their working hours so that they can be with their families as much as possible. We also encourage other workplaces in our city to do the same. |
| Give us time and space to play with friends in a variety of places. ‘I like seeing my friends at the park’ (age 5) |
Apart from parks and the beaches, Council provides help for people living in a street or neighbourhood who want to have some fun together. You might want to organise a street or block party, fun or bike run, change your nature strip into a mini garden or share a community garden etc. |
| Open more family friendly restaurants and cafes. ‘Mostly all the cafes don’t have a garden. Flowers any colour from the rainbow there should be so you can like to look at them. Gardens at the back so you can sit and like smell them’ (age ‘We go to cafes and have baby chinos’ (age 5) |
Council is currently reviewing its Footpath and Trading Guidelines. It will be addressing such things as overcrowding on footpaths due to outdoor seating in cafes and restaurants that prevent access for families with kids. |
