The plan adopts a whole-of-council, community-wide approach and relies upon the active contribution of all levels of council, residents and local community organisations. How was the plan developed?In addition to detailed health statistical analyses, over 1,100 residents were consulted using surveys, focus groups and community-based research. The research highlighted a complex mix of economic, social and environmental issues affecting citizens' health and well-being. The plan is built upon a social model of health which consistent with the World Health Organisation's Social Determinants of Health and the Ottawa Charter and 1997 Jakarta Declaration on Health Promotion What do you know about your community?Many facets of health and wellbeing are measured in the City of Port Phillip. Healthy and Safe Cities Alliance - implementing the planThe group directing the implementation of the Health and Community Safety Plan is known as the Healthy and Safe Cities Alliance. The alliance includes representatives of local health and welfare organisations, police and emergency services and business and citizen's representatives, the council and Victoria University. Alliance members have an active involvement in many facets of the implementation of the plan. Members include:
