Street trees, Ross Street Port Melbourne

Greening Port Phillip 2008

Greening Port Phillip Principals

  • To expand the street tree planting / replacement program
  • To provide a net increase in usable public open space
  • To increase permeable surfaces within the public and private realm
  • To review and refocus councils capital works projects and tree planting program to support the above principals and provide a stronger focus on main roads, key neighbourhood linkages and areas of the city with degraded streetscapes or poor access to open space

Since its inception in 2004, 25 streets that did not have trees previously, have been planted and have improved the local environment and contributed to the net increase of the cities tree assets.

7 minutes download via 56K modemAlma Road Flyer

Alma Road has been selected to receive new street trees, as the existing are in poor form and condition and do not provide a quality streetscape.

A mixture of Magnolia grandiflora ' St Mary' and Gleditsia tricanthos 'Limegold' will be planted to the nature strips on both sides of the road. Cupressus sempervirens 'Glauca' will be planted in front of the cenetery to match the ones already established on Hotham Street.

Tree removal and replacement will be undertaken in August, all trees will be mulched and staked and receive supplimentary watering throughout the summer for two years.
