Garden City Reserve is one of the largest recreational parks in Port Melbourne. Its vast open space accommodates cycling, soccer, dog walking; Trugo games, picnics and adventurous play at the Portosaurus dragon play space. Built in 2009-10 the play space features along Beacon Road and provides children with natural and imaginative play. This play space is unique to the City of Port Phillip and has become a local institution as has the reserve itself.
Garden city underwent major landscape renovations in 2009-10 to upgrade the facility and ensure its longevity as a premier Port Melbourne open space. An extensive shared path network facilitates easy passage across the reserve and a sustainable lighting system illuminates the paths at night. Hundreds of native and exotic tree plantings and numerous indigenous garden beds that were planted by the local community add to the asethic appeal and diversity of the space. Combined with the thousands of birds that flock to the trees with in the reserve this space provides visitors with a connection to nature.
