Foreshore Management Plan
City of Port Phillip were winners at the 2012 Victorian Coastal Council Awards for Excellence. The City of Port Phillip won the category of Coastal Planning and Management for our Foreshore Management Plan.
The foreshore is Port Phillip’s most outstanding natural and cultural asset and plays a very important social and recreational role. The Foreshore Management Plan guides how to protect, maintain and manage the city’s coastline. The new plan provides strategic directions to address unsustainable impacts on the Port Phillip coast and community. Issues include increasing demands for additional facilities, declining vegetation, ageing infrastructure, a changing climate and 24 hour culture over summer. The plan reflects the area’s environmental needs and the aspirations of the community, key stakeholders and council.

The beaches, bay and foreshore environment is highly valued by the Port Phillip community and a precious part of the coast. The City of Port Phillip developed a new Foreshore Management Plan to guide how we protect, maintain, and manage our coastline and foreshore.
The public consultation throughout 2010 and 2011 directly influenced the development of the plan. During the consultation participants indentified thier current issues, values for the foreshore and detailed what they would like to change or improve along their part of the coast. Refer to the completed consultations at Your Bay Your Say for details more details of the consultation. Full details of the public submissions are documented in the Background Review and Appendix of the Foreshore Management Plan.
