forecast.id uses the 2001 Census data as a base for their current population figures and then applies a modelling approach based on local assumptions such as demographic change, policy environment and urban development drivers. This results in population and household statistics up until 2021.

The forecast data is based on information and input from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (base population, birth, deaths, migration etc.), local government (dwelling additions and demolitions), and anecdotal evidence from real estate agents and land developers.
