Family Support Service

To use this Family Support Program you need to live in the City of Port Phillip. 
For enquires, please contact Robert Biggins on 9209 6597     

Family Support Service is a free confidential service for families with children under the age of 18 years living in Port Phillip and having difficulties in their every day life.

Support is offered on issues such as:

  • Being isolated and lack of support from relatives, friends or neighbours
  • Information on services in connecting with their community
  • Lacking confidence or knowledge in dealing with certain issues or events in their life
  • Needing support during stressful times of life such as a birth, sudden illness, relationship or parenting difficulties

When you contact the family support service you will be put in touch with a worker to discuss your needs in person. Together, you will work out how the service can assist you to make choices about the type of help you need

Family support services can also:

  •  Provide support on practical ways to care for children 
  •  Helping parents with the decisions that affect their family situation, and provide opportunities for families to participate and help connect to their community
  • Offer alternate behaviour management strategies
  • Assisting to promote a healthy family lifestyle

Family Support can assist with support including

  • School
  • General communication
  • Family relationships
  • Household management budgeting
  • Social skills

 How we can help

  • In Home Support; regular support visits in the comfort of your own home
  • Provision of Case Management to assist families who have many other agencies involved, and prevent the unnecessary doubling up of services
  • Create support groups / social groups /educative groups /single parents groups / play groups /coffee mornings
  • Information and Referral; either by visits or telephone

All information provided by families will be treated confidentially, and only shared with other professionals with your written permission. However, in situations where we believe children may be at risk, we have a professional duty of care to contact the Department of Human Services
