Message from the Chief Executive Officer
The City of Port Phillip is a great place to work. We recognise that new ways of working together can achieve better outcomes for us as employees and the community that we serve. We call this a web organisation; a network of people and relationships based on trust, integrity, openness and fairness.
The hallmark of a web organisation is the confident use of personal judgement where we always consider the context of the situation before making decisions. The web organisation recognises that life is unpredictable both personally and professionally. We encourage people to be the same person at work as they are at home and to remember our three simple rules: care for ourselves, care for each other and care for this place.
The City of Port Phillip is committed to achieving outcomes which are beneficial to the community, the organisation and to the personal learning of our people. If you are considering the City of Port Phillip in your future career plans I encourage you to explore our web site to find out more.

CoPP Culture & Values
The City of Port Phillip has a culture all of its own and it is one that we are proud of. People sometimes say we are 'a little bit different' to other organisations and we celebrate our diversity. We refer to our culture at the City of Port Phillip as a 'web culture', one which is based around our eight principles:
- Ruthlessly seek to understand through the use of dialogue.
- Be comfortable operating with and discussing the uncomfortable.
- Understand and accept that the business we are in is complex and paradoxical.
- Expect that the unpredictable will occur.
- Focus on outcomes and the destination, realising that the journey and sometimes the environment may change.
- Understand that innovation and risk taking occur within boundaries of accountability.
- Understand that the ability to manage strong relationships is what creates real success.
- Share in each other's success and failure.
We encourage staff to have fun and grow at work and we promote three simple rules:
- Care for yourself
- Care for each other
- Care for this place
We are focused on service and consider the 'four pillars' of sustainability in everything we do:
- Economic viability
- Environmental responsibility
- Social equity
- Cultural vitality
