The City of Port Phillip is upgrading the Elwood foreshore, aiming for completion prior to Christmas. This $2.3m project will create a shared bike and pedestrian path along the front of the Elwood Sea Scouts, Sailing and Angling Clubs. Major landscaping improvements, better lighting, more seating and a new paved plaza style entrance to the foreshore will also be constructed. During construction there will be some disruptions including reduced parking, internal road closures and redirection of bike and pedestrian paths. The council appreciates your patience as these works are undertaken over the short term for long term benefits. Experienced landscaping/civil contractors Canteri Bros Constructions Pty Ltd are running the program of works over the three stages, described below. The second Stakeholder Information Session will be held at 6pm on Tuesday 12 August 2008 at the Elwood Lifesaving Clubrooms. During this stage there will only be one way access with the exit lane of the roadway beside the Beachhouse Café becoming the entry lane Traffic will exit the area using the roadway adjoining the southern carpark. Access to the front of the Sea Scouts, Angling and Sailing Clubs. the trailer park and foreshore will be retained as will separate bicycle and pedestrian paths Stage Two (4 September to 21 November)The exit laneway will be closed with the redeveloped entry roadway reverting to its original alignment. Works will commence on the areas in front of the club rooms and improvements to the green plaza area and the trailor park area between the Sailing Club and the Life Saving Club. During this stage bicycle and pedestrian traffic will be redirected behind the club rooms and through the redeveloped car park. Access to the foreshore will be closed off in the works area Stage Three (15 October to 19 December)Works will be concentrated on the areas, around and behind the three club rooms Bicycle and pedestrian traffic will have access to the newly created shared path in front of the clubrooms.
