The many faces of Elster Creek

The Elster Creek is a tributary of Port Phillip Bay, stretching 15-20 kilometres from Bentleigh to Elwood. Beginning in Bentleigh, it flows underground to McKinnon and East Brighton. It continues to become visible at Gardenvale and looks like a small creek through to Brighton, then surfaces to the north of Point Ormond. The most well known point of the Elster Creek, is at what is commonly called the Elwood Canal. Through the Elwood Canal, the Elster Creek runs directly into Port Phillip Bay
 

Elster Creek catchment is an inner urban Melbourne catchment lying immediately adjacent to the south of the Yarra River catchment. The catchment covers an area of approximately 40 square kilometres of Melbourne's inner south eastern suburbs, extending from Elwood to Carnegie, Moorabbin to Brighton and everywhere in between. The Elster Creek catchment (as the name suggests) catches rainwater that falls in this area and via the creek, carries this water down to Port Phillip Bay.
