Initiatives and programsA number of initiatives and programs exist for young people that provide educational and training opportunities, outside of mainstream schooling. HEAT (Hospitality Employment and Training project)Hospitality Employment and Training (HEAT) is a sustainable program run by St Kilda Youth Service designed to dramatically improve the lives of many young people who are presently unemployed and/or disengaged from mainstream education. Often these young people have few skills, negative experience of training and little understanding of the culture of work, leaving them with poor prospects of gaining long term employment. HEAT (Hospitality, Employment and training) In May 2005 St Kilda Youth Service received a three-year grant from the ANZ Trust (William Buckland Foundation and the Felton Bequest) to develop and deliver a hospitality training and employment program for young disadvantaged people in the City of Port Phillip. This program in partnership with the City of Port Phillip, The Inner Eastern Local Learning and Employment Network, Victoria Police, William Angliss and local restaurant Metropol will offer work readiness preparation, hospitality training and work experience to 30 - 40 young people every year. This program will directly link young disadvantaged people to training and employment in a growing local industry.
