Person walking in the City

IMAP Action 2.2 - 'to introduce consistent pedestrian oriented and public transport signage systems across the region' seeks to contribute to the delivery of IMAP Strategy 2, which is to 'effectively link transport routes so that the Inner Melbourne Region is accessible throughout by walking, cycling and public transport'.

The Inner Melbourne Region currently provides an attractive and pedestrian friendly walking environment that will continue to be enhanced by the promotion and development of a regional pedestrian network (IMAP Action 2.4). The provision of well-located informative signs across the region will support the growth and promotion of walking as it gets you places and has additional recreational and health benefits. Every regional journey has a walking component.

The strengthening of pedestrian, cycling and public transport links across the Inner Region has important benefits for regional tourism, transport and activity centres and are a key priority to ensure the achievement of a well-connected transport and recreational environment and a truly sustainable future.

Key Issues

Each IMAP partner is keen to provide for a well-signed environment; all have strategies or programs in place to progressively achieve this although each is at a different stage of design and delivery. This project aims to share knowledge and intellectual property in order to facilitate and expedite consistency in signage standards, design and character across the region.
