Are you willing to take the Challenge 2 Change?
Challenge 2 Change is a free 6 week program to save energy and be part of the climate change solution, commencing in April.
Challenge 2 Change participants:
- Use simple no-cost energy saving actions to reduce greenhouse emissions and save money on bills
- Receive training in how to measure and monitor energy use in your building, and how to report results
- Are eligible for prizes for all participants and the biggest energy savers
- Set long term goals for net zero greenhouse emissions
Can my group join the Challenge 2 Change?
Groups across the City of Port Phillip, including residents, streets, apartment blocks, schools, community organisations and businesses are invited to take up the Challenge 2 Change.
All you need is an accessible building where you can measure electricity use and the willingness to take action. This could be your community centre, your school, your café or your apartment block.
What does Challenge 2 Change involve?
Together, groups aim to achieve a to 20 per cent reduction in electricity use from simple behaviour actions alone, such as turning off unused lights, using heating and cooling efficiently, and reducing stand-by power use.
The program involves 4 stages over 6 weeks:
- READY Weeks 1-3 Receive training with program kits and online tools
- SET Week 4 Plan and practise actions, delegate roles
- GO! Week 5 Get going on no-cost energy actions
- SO? Week 6 Review greenhouse savings and set goals
All Participants are invited to CELEBRATE achievements at World Environment Day on June 5
All groups receive training in how to measure and monitor energy use in your building, and how to report results using the on-line reporting tool. Participants from all ages learn to take responsibility for energy use and how to record temperatures and light levels.
Program participants share lessons and actions that work for them, by reporting and comparing results with other organisations taking action at the same time.
Prizes are awarded to the biggest energy savers and incentives are provided to all groups to keep the action going.
Participants also aspire to a long-term goal of net zero greenhouse emissions by 2010 through a combination of behaviour, retrofitting and low-emission energy options.
