Partnerships, Pathways, Promotions

The Culturally Equitable Gateways Strategy's (CEGS) aim is to ensure that older people from ethnic communities have improved access to Ageing and Community Care services at the Port Phillip council.

CEGS is a Victorian government initiative.

Aims and objectives

  • To increase utilisation of City of Port Phillip's aged care services such as home care, delivered meals and respite care by people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds.
  • Building the council's capacity to make our Community Care Services and other services culturally responsive.
  • Improving social support and health promotion activities and options for people from diverse cultural backgrounds.

How do we do this

  • By working in partnership with the ethno-specific organisations and multicultural organisations such as the regional Migrant Resource Centre to improve referrals, assessment, service planning.
  • Information and promotional work for seniors from CALD backgrounds and community groups.
  • Identifying ways of improving cultural responsiveness of the council staff.
  • Assist council officers in gaining greater understanding of resources and services available in ethnic and multicultural organisations
  • Assisting with using interpreters, translated material and bi-lingual staff.
  • By supporting the council to keep cultural diversity high on the agenda.

Use eServices to ask us a question, request information or give us feedback online. If you prefer phone ASSIST on (03) 9209 6777 or TTy (03) 9209 6713 and ask for the CEGS Officer.
