Cecil Street Bike Path

York Street to Park Street, South Melbourne

Council has developed a concept design for an on road bike path along Cecil Street that will create better cycling connections and improve safety for both cyclists and pedestrians. We are currently in the concept design phase with expectation of construction to occur in 2011/12.

Typical cross section

The bike path will be a significant upgrade from the current path, and will include:

  • a painted separation between parked cars and bike lane
  • a vibra-line between bike path and traffic
  • raised zebra crossings at Dorcas Street and Bank Street intersections
  • minimal loss of on-street parking spaces, with a total loss of two spaces
  • existing bluestone channel will remain in tact.

Raised zebra crossings have been included in the design to improve pedestrian safety. The crossings will be at the following intersections:

  • Dorcas Street and Cecil Street
  • Bank Street and Cecil Street
