Biography

Serge Thomann, elected to Council in 2008, lives and works in Catani.  He has been an active citizen of Port Phillip for 25 years.  As one of Australia¿s most recognised people photographers, he has lent his talents in support of local and national charities, such as the Sacred Heart Mission, and local campaigns, such as the Acland Court, Espy and St Kilda Triangle battles. He was a Founder and President of unChain St Kilda.

Alongside his strong community conscience, he has business expertise and an appreciation of the arts. He is adept in organizing and managing events and brings these skills to his position on the council.

Serge reflects the values that he grew up with.  His father was a Mayor and Councillor for 30 years in a French town in Alsace, where he created a community that respected all its citizens - youth, families, traders, the elderly and the disadvantaged.

In the footsteps of his mentor, Serge is determined to create a Port Phillip that we will all be proud to live in, a Port Phillip that reflects and acts on the values of collaboration, care, community and creativity.

In particular, he understands St Kilda as an incubator of rich ideas, a unique place in Melbourne¿s landscape, and a connected engaged community.  As such, St Kilda needs a strong representative, who will support residents in their day to day needs, deliver social justice, education, environmental actions and sustainable development, nurture the arts and encourage the wellbeing of local businesses.

The recent struggles across Port Phillip serve as fertile ground to rethink our future and Serge brings to council the essential elements needed to bring to Port Phillip a connected community, visionary leadership and sustainable innovation.
