Council has been developing future directions for the Carlisle Street Activity CentreLocals and regular visitors to Carlisle Street will have noticed the changes occurring in this activity centre and the surrounding area - including changes in the retail mix, renovations to shop premises, and new housing development. In addition, Carlisle Street (Balaclava) is identified as a 'major activity centre' in the State Government's Melbourne 2030 Strategy which means it is expected to accommodate a broader mix of activities (shops, services, community facilities and housing) and maximise the use of public transport. By preparing a Structure Plan for the Carlisle Street area, Council will be in the best position to manage these pressures for change, with an understanding of local conditions and of what is valued by the local community. The Structure Plan will influence changes in land use activity, the design of new buildings and public spaces, and how people get to and move around the centre - whether it be by car, bike, on foot or by public transport. Community input is sought on three key documents
