Big Cake and Little Big Cake Youth Forums
The Big Cake and the Little Big Cake Youth Action Forums, annual event's since 2006, aim to maintain strong and mutually beneficial partnerships with education providers that compliment council’s community participation and civic governance aspirations whilst generating community based learning outcomes for local students.
Youth forums can often be seen to deliver a sense of hope and list of expectations but sometimes very little else. This is why the intention of the Big Cake and the Little Big Cake Youth Action Forums are somewhat different. The forums aims are to enable participants to not only explore issues and concerns but to take the time to plan for resolutions and outcomes. The forum is seen as the starting point for ongoing school based planning opportunities that link to community as a resource. The students who participate in the forums are encouraged to deliver the initiatives they developed during the forums. The initiatives are supported by council and community but the onus to deliver them is on the students.
Participation in the Big Cake and Little Big Cake Forums has the potential to enrich student leadership programs, strengthening the future roles and responsibilities of leaders creating meaningful connections within school and across community.
These forums are supported by the Foundation for Young Australians
