The  Betty Day Community Centre first opened in January 1987. The centre is used by many community groups from diverse age groups and multicultural backgrounds. There is also a Regional Meals Kitchen; and drop-in space for people to engage in social activities.

The Betty Day Community Centre is now open after renovation

The redevelopment of Betty Day Community Centre is a key implementation strategy from the Community Hubs policy. Some of the exciting changes to the centre include:

  • Increased community space for meeting rooms, training rooms and office space by decommissioning the Regional Meals Kitchen
  • Improved access to the building by reconfiguring the main entrance to the side of the building, decreasing negative impact on resident amenity
  • Creation of a new entrance in the back which will decrease the thoroughfare down Argyle Street; promote the use of the car park and increase access to open space
  • Rejuvenation of the local area through urban renewal
  • Improved universal access with the addition of a disabled ramp and universal toilets;
  • Improvements to the functionality of the meals distribution and delivery area;
  • Environmentally sustainable design principles with the addition of recycled rain water systems, passive solar design, low energy light fittings, water efficient systems and the utilisation of recycled materials.
